Space Age Presents

A Long List of Sci-fi Movies

by Justin Fox on Oct.03, 2008, under Blog

So, since I am writing Jet Girl, I have been watching some of my old favorite Sci-fi films and a few new ones. I’m trying to find inspiration from the genre I loved so much as a kid. The most recent was Star Ship Troopers 3. I have to say, I liked the film a lot, but the high Christian overtones at the end were a little much for me.

So I have decided to make a list of some of my favorite Sci-fi movies for you all to watch, for your enjoyment, or perhaps, so you know what caused me to write this Space-Mod epic.

Oh, and this list is in no particular order—it’s just my favorites in random array. If I missed anything or if you have any recommendations, please comment with the tiles you think I might like. I love a good space drama.

Enjoy!

  • Star Wars Trilogy - Trilogy! That’s right… even though part three was pretty cool. Haha.
  • Blade Runner - All versions! I can’t get enough of em.
  • Gattaca - Ethan Hawke is damn cool and crippled Jude Law is a badass!
  • Event Horizon - Fucking scary end of story.
  • A.I. - Jude Law Prostitute robot…BADASS!
  • Star Ship Troopers - I know, they’re pretty bad, but I love em!
  • Sunshine - Cilian Murphy is so cool!
  • Escape From New York - Ok, yes. Even escape from LA…but New York was cooler.
  • Mad Max and The Road Warrior - The only good part of Thunder Dome WAS Thunder Dome. That movie sucked!
  • The Matrix - Yeah, I know. But still, it was good, I won’t say anything about the sequels.
  • Equilibrium - It’s 1984 meets Batman meets a Jet Lee movie, f’ing amazing.
  • 1984 - What can I say? The book was better, but the film still holds strong.
  • Oldboy - Most would not consider this Sci-fi, but I just had to mention it cause I love it so much.
  • Alien Quadrilogy - I love that whole series H.R. Gieger is amazing. I still get chills to this day watching those films, well at least the first two. I have plans to write a new one, but that’s all in the future, I hope…no pun intended.
  • Predator - "GET TO THE CHOPPER!!!"
  • Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow - Sorry, once again, Jude Law is as cool as the day is long.
  • The Jacket - Adrian Brody is great in this film, the plot is just f’ing weird!
  • THX 1138 - I stand guilty of never seeing this film, but I heard it’s good.
  • Universal Soldier - This is a classic crap-fi movie.
  • 28 Days Later - Face it, it’s more sci-fi than horror.
  • Children of Men - So underrated and so good!
  • The Cat from Outer Space - Hahaha, sorry, still holds true to my childhood memories.
  • Flight of The Navigator - What else do I have to say?
  • Explorers - Classic 80’s Sci-fi.
  • Dune - All its incarnations.
  • The Abyss - That movie was so good and so sad.
  • Casheren - A Japanese film based on an old anime check it out!
  • Demolition Man - Utter crap but you have to like it.
  • Tank Girl - That whole movie is so awfully entertaining.
  • Terminator - I watched the Sarah Conner chronicles and I can’t wait for the new movies to come out.
  • Id4 - Must go faster.
  • Planet of The Apes - Not the new one by Tim Burton, that should have never been made.
  • Fifth Element - Great flick, but unfortunately gave Milla Jovavich a reason to make like 40 terrible Sci-fi movies after.
  • Heavy Metal - Classic.
  • Fahrenheit 451 - Never read the book, but I love this film.
  • Strange Days - Y2K paranoia, hahaha!
  • Hackers - Only time I ever thought Angelina Jolie looked good. Sorry, just my opinion.
  • Mario Bros. - YES, FUCKING MARIO BROS!!!
  • Total Recall - "Get your ass to Mars." "Screw you, Benny." So many good one liners!
  • Transformers - I don’t care what you think, this movie was great.
  • Time Bandits - Midgets through time, what more could a guy ask for?
  • Virtuosity - Russel Crowe should be the bad guy in everything.
  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind - A plate of mashed potatoes always mean something important.
  • Star Trek - Only a few of them.

I know I have missed a few, but I stand guilty of not seeing some of the classics, so help me out people!
